Study Finds Malpractice Third Leading Cause of Death in U.S.

A study published last year on a reputable journal determined the third leading cause of death in the U.S. after heart disease and cancer is malpractice. Even the best doctors have a bad day, causing an accident. The new show #theresident highlights this fact showing two doctors making errors with humility and one very senior doctor making errors without remorse. The system is broken many of these errors are hidden from the families. Doctors and staff including the doctor who screwed up should be required to tell the patient. Where a patient dies because of a medical error the providers and all who have knowledge of the screw up should be required to tell the family or risk loosing the right to continue to practice. Arguably this rule already exists for lawyers who screw up. It should be made stronger for lawyers and absolute for doctors.
